Mathematical Perspective of Computational Anatomy in Neuroscience

The intricate morphology of neurons has fascinated scientists since the dawn of neuroscience, and yet, it is hard to model and generate such shapes using algorithms. Here we first show how we can represent neurons with geometrical graphs and fit various probabilistic growth models on the different database of neurons. In the second part, we introduce a generator for neuron morphologies using naive Markov Chain Monte Carlo. Good generative models for neuron morphologies promise to be important both for neural simulations and for neural reconstructions from imaging data.
